Description:
NY: McGraw Hill, 1960. First. Hard Cover. VG+/VG+. In 1864 General Robert E. Lee sent a Confederate force under the command of Jubal Early to threaten Washington City. This was an attempt to relieve Union pressure being applied in the Richmond-Petersburg area. Early was successful and reached the outskirts of the city. President Lincoln went to the battlements to see for himself what was going on. He was shot at by Confederate sharpshooters making him the only U.S. president to come under enemy fire. A standard on this part of the War.
