Adams was a physician from South Carolina who "was able to present the black dialect with great precision, and also as a white author who unhesitatingly portrayed the hardships of racial prejudice in the 1920s and 1930s.

4 volumes bound uniformly in leather. Some foxing especially on the first few pages of each volume. This includes an essay on the life of Lamb by Thomas Purnell. Lamb (1775-1834) was an author, poet and much-loved British writer.

Boston: Printed by Samuel Eldredge, 1796. 19 pages, removed from a bound volume. Very good condition.

Mt. Lebanon, NY: The Shakers, 1880. 4 1/4"x 3 3/8". Clipped from a larger sheet. Four Shaker chair trade mark decals that were placed on commercially made Shaker chairs. The trade marks were used to counter the sale of counterfeit Shaker chairs.

Boston: Crosby, Nichols, and Co, 1854. 124 pp. First edition. Head of the spine lacking, and the front board has remnants of a label adhered to it. The First few leaves are foxed. Haitian born slave Toussaint wnt on to be a well-known hairdresser in New York city and a leading member of the Catholic Church.

New York: Published for the Author, 1877. 96 pp. Binding worn and rubbed with head of the spine lacking. Large stamps on endpapers that read "Alfred J. Young Collection, NYC" and a smaller stamp that reads "Jay Irving Collection." This includes a list of officers who are members and a summary of monies given to families of deceased officers. OCLC locates 2 copies.

Mount Lebanon: A.G. Hollister, 1904. 86 pp. Fine condition. Leonard (1803-1877) joined the Harvard Shakers in 1829. He was an Elder in the Harvard Families for many year.

London, New York: Gibbings & Co, 1913. 3 volumes bound in 3/4 morrocco. Nice condition with light rubbing and book plates of Maine bookseller Gary Woolson. Originally published in 1796 this gothic novel tells the story of the downfall of a monk who falls for a young woman.

Boston: Kneeland and Adams, 1768. 26 pp. Fair condition with wear to the edge of the pages and stains. William Livingston, a founding father, answers Landaff's sermon promoting the Church of England in America. Landaff argues for an American Bishopric. Evans, 10949.
