1940. Hardcover. Good. 7.5"x5". The third impression of the cookbook compiled by Lady Maze and Mrs V.G. Bowen in Shanghai in 1940. From the preface: 'This collection of recipes has been compiled with the aim of benefiting British war funds. There is probably no more cosmopolitan city in the world than Shanghai, and no place that has a more justly earned reputation for hospitality. It, therefore, seemed to us that we had a unique opportunity of making a collection of recipes of international dishes - provided always that our many friends and sympathisers could be prevailed upon to yield up their culinary secrets for a national cause.' With charming illustrations, and a few recipes printed with Chinese translation on the facing page. Discoloration and wear to the spine, including a small crescent void on the upper edge (see photo). Some foxing, particularly to the endpapers and title page. Previous owner's gift inscription.

1915. Soft cover. Good. A community cook book, circa 1915. Many communities produced their own cookbooks during this period of time, to showcase their local cuisine, promote local businesses and raise money for charitable purposes. We found no other copies available in the trade and no copies held in institutions per OCLC. Description: Brown paper wraps with title, price and publisher printed in black to front wrap; measures approximately 8 3/4" by 6"; stapled wrap binding: pagination: [1] title page, 2-63, ads to front and rear inner wraps. Overall fair condition. 1 1/8" chip missing from front wrap, water stains to front wrap, spine is partially split with chips missing, stains to rear wrap, 1/2" chip missing from rear wrap, interior is quite clean with just a few minor stains. Biography of the spanish painter Ignacio Zuloaga. Comes with Dust Jacket. Dust Jacket is white with a color portrait of Ignacio Zuloaga pasted on the front and title and author in black text. There is a icon of a heron printed on the back. The book is cloth-bound in red wit the title and author in gilt text on the front and spine. The dust jacket is in very good condition with some foxing and shelf-wear to the edges. The spine has some tanning. There is slight bending to the edges of the book. The front and back cover has some minor scratches. This is 187/300 of a limited edition printing that includes an original etching by Zuloaga laid in (See Photos).

New York, 1901. Hardcover. Very Good. This slim work begins with a preface by Henry B. Alexandar, arguing for roulette as a game to play at home ('In my opinion, Roulette is the King of all games'), before offering an 'explanation' of the technical and French vocabulary, an 'illustration of the table', an outline of the 'odds paid on the various chances', an description of 'Roulette at Monte Carlo' , description of twenty 'systems', and tables with the numbers for ten days of roulette in March 1901. Described on the title page as 'The first and only publication of the kind in the United States'. Lake is identified as the copyright holder, and the work attributed to him by Jessel 1046. Flexible boards, decorated, with a roulette wheel and cloth in red and black on the back cover. Scuffs and two small red marks to the front cover. [1-7] 8-64. The tables have their own pagination, with each day beginning anew with a total of 80 more pages, including an index. 14.5 x 21 cm.

Oakland, California: Printed by Fontes Printing Co, 1954. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. INSCRIBED by Jack LaLanne, "Healthfully yours, Jack La Lanne". Presumed first edition, no further printings noted. Slightest wear to illustrated boards, with early price sticker on front cover. An early enthusiastic reader has made a neat pencil note to three recipes, with corresponding additions to the table of contents. The same hand adds notes and one additional recipe to the rear endpaper. Pages are otherwise clean and bright. 8.75 x 5.75

The jacket offers the following advertisement: 'The author has had an extensive experience in studying roulette playing at Monte Carlo, and the result is an accumulation of evidence supporting his accusation of unfair control on the part of the bank in the notorious Casino. The book is a full and descriptive account of the methods of croupiers in dealing with players, and of the observation maintained by the officials over both croupiers and the players. The work is full of typical incidents, tragic and amusing, observed on the spot.' Orange covers are bright, with wear to the lower edge of the spine. Minor staining to upper edge, discoloration to endpapers. [i-v], vi-x, [1]-100. 13 x 20 cm.

Newmann's bookplate is affixed to the front endpaper and his raised stamp to the title page, while a stamp on final page identifies 'The Newmann Library: America's Most Comprehensive Collection on the Magic Arts' [1]-204, 4 pages of ads. Red cloth binding with black lettering, sunning to spine, discoloration to front cover over author's name.
