Cover corner tips bumped, some rubbing at top and bottom of spine. Gilt lettering on spine has faded; gilt lettering, medallion and rulled edge on front cover remain bright. Former owners' names written in ink at top of first free fly leaf; each struck out with single thin line. There is no date the title page with 1884 on the copyright page. Interior pages clean and not marred by notes or highlighting; and the spine is undamaged and binding remains tight. This is not an ex-library book, but was donated to the Friends of the Eugene, Oregon, Public Library. We are selling the book to help support library programs for children and adults. Thank you.

This soft cover magazine (No. 70, March 2010) was a special issue of the official newsletter of the USS Landing Craft, Infantry, National Association, Inc. John P. Cummer, editor. Pages 62, 63, and 64 list those killed in action by landing craft number. A previous owner has carefully counted each and added them by columns to reach 274 killed. He also added a note to the top of an article titled "History of LCI (M)596." He notes that he trained on this ship and then took part in a landing in France.

This volume is one of three which grew out of a study of Black culture on St. Helena Island, South Carolina. This book deals with certain major aspects of dialect, folk songs, and folklore. The section on dialect attempts to describe the Gullah dialect traits. Condition problems: Book is cocked. Cover corner tips are slightly bumped. Shelf wear on top and bottom of spine. Binding beginning to separate but remains tight.
