Description:
Vanguard Press. New York. 1951. Black cloth boards with white Brainwashing written in tradional mandarin on front and red and white lettering to spine. The front board has a slight crease and a bump to the lower right corner; the spine a slight lean, otherwise very good. Pages are age-toned. Inscribed by author on front paste-down in 1952 to Desmond FitzGerald. I believe Mr. FitzGerald (1910-1967) was an American Intillignec officer for the CIA, serving from 1950 until his death. During WWII he was the liaison and adviser to the Chinese Army for the US Army. The author, Edward Hunter (1902-1978) coined the term "Brain-Washing" in a 1950 article for Miami News and explains, in detail, what this means. From the last sentence of the book: "This is what has to be stopped and counteracted, and the mentally maimed must be cured if we ourselves are to be safe ourselves from "brain-washing" and "brain-changing" - and "liquidation" and "evaporation". Talk about psychological warfare. 5.5x8.25 in. With index, 311 pg.
