Rebacked three-quarter leather, retaining marbled boards with gilt lettering on black label of spine; raised bands. Tan endpapers. Color frontispiece. Allen Francis Gardiner (1794-1851) was a British Royal Navy officer and missionary. "... the object of my journey-an endeavor, under the blessing of God, to open a way whereby the ministers of the gospel might find access to the Zoolu nation..." (Gardiner). Gardiner succeeded to establish the first missionary station at Port Natal but was unsuccessful in establishing Christian churches in Zooluland. The maps in this volume have been taken from Arrowsmith's map enlarged, and the remainder filled up generally from personal observation. Handsome work being a catalog from Johann Heinrich Jta (1850-1915), a major hat manufacturer in Vienna during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This catalog was published on the occasion of the 1910 International Hunting Exhibition whic took place in Vienna. Featured in this work are a striking color reproduction of a painting by R. Germela depicting Emperor Franz-Josef in his hunting outfit, and 9 color reproductions of paintings by Ferdinand Gauermann being hunting and wildlife scenes. B/w photo-illustrated stapled wrappers with white lettering on the front cover. The publication is issue #1921 of the of the promotional supplement to the German weekly, Illustrierter Film-Kurier, promoting the German release of the 1932 MGM production Grand Hotel. The booklet is profusely illustrated throughout (including the front and back covers) with b/w photogravure images and photomontage, depicting scenes and characters from the film. "Grand Hotel", which its self was originally based on the 1929 German novel "Menschen im Hotel" by Vicki Baum, was a hugely successful film, critically and commercially, winning the Academy Award for Best Picture. Text throughout in German, including cast credits. Wrappers with minor rubbing to extremities, and a horizontal folding crease. Wrappers in very good+, interior in near fine condition overall. Protected by modern mylar.
