10 loose leaves, each with a large water colour drawing accompanied by a 4 line handwritten poem by Eckertz on thick ocre coloured paper. All watercolours with monogram WE and dated (19)22. In original wrappers, front cover with manuscript title and watercolour drawing with monogram WE and dated (19)22. Folio (380 x 295 mm). Foot of spine torn, a few further short tears. A beautifully illustrated artist's manuscript in bright colours. A christmas gift by the artist for his wife. Waldemar Eckertz (Wuppertal 1878 - Berlin 1947) lived in Düsseldorf around 1906, and in Berlin from 1913 until his death, and had lessons with Lyonel Feininger from 1916. He was a member of the "Novembergruppe" and exhibited in the gallery "Der Sturm". He published poems and linocuts in the magazine of the same name. In the 1920s he participated with his artwork in a number of exhibitions in German galleries and was variously engaged in book and stage design, and was active as an author of poems and plays.

Noman 1804 with the following remark: Not seen, but quoted by J. de Jong: Alphabetische Naamlyst van boeken 1790-1831. The Hague, Amsterdam 1832. Publisher's prospectus for a Dutch edition of this important ichthyological work the printing of which apart of the 4 leaves of text and accompanying plates came to a standstill for unkown reasons. "The whole of the patterns illustrating this work, were turned by the author, some on box-wood, and others on metal; and every pattern bound up with this copy, has been printed with his own hands, by means of one of Mr. Cowper's parlour printing presses" (foreword page 2).
