Fine. 11/16 x 9/16 inches, brass, with red enamel upper cover and embossed lower cover, with clasp and loop so the book can be worn as a charm, Six miniature silver-gelatin photographs, mounted on the inside covers and on two interior brass "leaves." All photographs are captioned. Godalming is a town, currently of about 21,000, in the county of Surrey, England. The photographs show an overview of the town, High Street, Godalming Bridge, Charterhouse School, Eashing Bridge and Frith Hill.

Very good: albumen photographs show varying degrees of fading. 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 inches, original blindstamped red leather with brass clasp, This album is made up of 8 leaves displaying 13 photographs. These are either albumen photographs (9 images) or tintypes (4 images). The albumen pictures are scenic views of various subjects and the tintypes are portraits.

24 leaves of full page illustrations by Harry Clarke. Rear hinge cracked near bottom edge, some discoloration to vellum, foxing to front and rear endpapers and several leaves at front of book, contents and plates very clean. Number 68 of 170 copies numbered and signed by Clarke.

Several sections missing from rear dust jacket of volume 1. Archival tape repairs to inside of dust jacket of volumes 1, 2 and 5.
Complete five volumes in first edition of Adams influential series of technical books on photography. A projected sixth volume titled Twelve Photographic Problems was never produced. A sixth technical volume titled Polaroid Land Photography Manual was published in 1963. Titles include:
Camera and Lens, 1948, stated first edition.
The Negative, 1948, stated first edition.
The Print, 1950, stated first edition.
Natural Light Photography, 1952, no later printings stated.
Artificial-Light Photography 1956, no later printings stated.
Each volume signed by Adams on the preliminary blank leaf or the half title, dated "7-17-83" and dedicated to a previous owner.

First revised edition. 304 pages, 10 x 7 inches, cloth with dust jacket, chips and tears to front and rear cover, signed by the photographer in pen on title page.

Inscribed to William Holger by Adams on half-title page and dated "Yosemite, 1940". Adams and Holger met in the 1930s when both were in involved in the f/64 movement in the San Francisco Bay Area. Holger was a constuction supervisor and an amateur photographer. Holger participated in many of the early Yosemite photography workshops run by Adams.
A fine copy of one of Adams' early books.

Vintage inscription by Adams on front endpaper to William Holger an amateur photographer that Adams knew from the f/64 group in the 1930s. Holger was a construction supervisor in San Francisco and attended many of the early Yosemite Workshops conducted by Adams.
Laid in is a copy of the four page prospectus for the book with an interesting note that "Subscriptions will be accepted in advance for first edition copies which will be autographed by Ansel Adams. Those who wish the book inscribed to a particular person my specify this on the enclosed order form."

Signed and dated by Adams on half-title page. A very nice copy of this fragile book.
