Description:
"The rules" were drawn up by the head of the Main Prison Administration, Privy Councilor A.M. Stremoukhov and approved by the Minister of Justice N.V. Muravyov. They determined the order of detention of political prisoners, the rules of supervision, as well as their benefits and privileges. The only edition. A copy with the seals of the People's Commissariat of Justice (1917 - early 1920). On the front cover, the owner's inscription (autograph) has been erased in ink, probably the name of the Minister of Justice A.F. Kerensky (1917). In the text in the margins - pencil marks (old spelling): "I agree", etc. Publishing cardboard binding, torn pages. The rarest prison edition (not found in the catalogs of the main libraries).

The first edition, compiled by the Danish– Russian translator Peter Emanuel Hansen (1846– 1930). The impetus for its publication was an earlier fourteen-language edition published in Copenhagen on the occasion of Andersen's 70th birthday in 1875. Hansen presents the text of "Historien om en moder" together with 21 translations: Russian (translated by Hansen and his wife, Anna), Ukrainian, Polish, Czech, Slovak, Serbian, Icelandic, Swedish, German, Low German (Plattdeutsch), Dutch, English (from Oscar Sommer's recent translation, London, 1893), French, Spanish, Italian, Greek, Armenian, Finnish, Hungarian, Tatar, and Hebrew. French and Russian title-pages; original decorated cloth pasted on covers,preserving the original chromolithographed wrappers designed by Dalkevich, incorporating a portrait of Andersen by the engraver Vasily Matè (1856–1917). Author Aron Naumovich Gefter (1894–1963), a graphic artist, graduated of Vilno Art College, Higher Art and Technical College in Moscow, was a student of V. Favorsky and D. Kardovsky. Expressive caricatures of foreign politicians, Russian emigres, fascists; a significant part of the cartoons depicts Zionists, Jewish nationalists and other Jews. Text in Yiddish. Foreword by Moshe Litvakov (shot soon after).
With the inscription of the artist made in 1933.
Condition: Original embossed cloth binding. Stains on the covers. A small loss in the spine. Cracks in end papers.
Very rare book with attractive illustrations.
