Herrsching, Germany: Manfred Pawlak Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, 1980. Hardcover. As New/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Lucas Cranach. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Copies were purchased directly the distributor when new and have and packed away for several decades. Dust jacket is graded as near fine because of a few very minor scuffs and bumps and there is a bit of delaminating on the front right edge where the clear protective cover has a thin long separation from the red paper good and red cloth boards underneath is clean and bright. Binding is tight as book has never been read, never been thumbed through, has never even been on a store shelf. Pages are bright and clean with no issues. No handwriting, no price stickers, no remainder marks. No publication date listed (catalog showed copyright date of 1980). Please note: text is in German. There is one is one and photos are of the actual book for sale.

New York: Shields Publishing Co., Inc., 1928. Limited Edition . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, signed and generically inscribed by the author. Limited edition of 1200 copies, of which this is number 749. Black cloth boards with paper label on front and spine. Exterior shows some spotting and soiling along with edge and corner bumps/wear. Top and bottom edges of front and rear boards both have some dents near the center and rear board shows fade spots as does the spine. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues though some of the pages with photographs are starting to loosen. Black and gold end pages and front and rear are free of any bookplates or library markings. Only handwriting found in book is on the limited edition page which bears the authors handwriting and signature.

London: Ingram, Cooke, & Co., 1852. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original 1852 publication in original binding. Cloth is quite worn and faded, spine shows tears, holes and chipping. Edges and corners also worn/bumped. The internal binding shows some pulling at boards and at a few quadrants of pages though pages are all still secure. The tissue guard on the frontispiece is still present and attached. Paper is tone due to age and light foxing is present throughout. Front pastedown and opposite end page contains original owner data written in pencil and in the upper right corner there is an oval embossed seal from the original bookstore. All engravings have been verified as being present. No other markings found other than what has been pointed out here, no bookplates, no library markings.

New York: Mitchell Kennerley, 1912. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, green cloth boards with gilt text on front and spine. Board show soiling and spotting along with light edge and corner wear. Front board has a small smooth spot which feels like is a small drip of wax. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues found. Paper is toned due to age and there is spotting and foxing present. Front pastedown contains a personal bookplate from the Private Library of W. H. Stout and front end page shows residue of wear something was written in the corner. No other markings found.

New York: Derby & Jackson, 1857. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. Fair. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards, blind stamped on front and rear with ornate gilt to spine. Exterior is heavily worn with corners rounded. Cloth is soiled and spine is chipping along top edge and left lower hinge area. Internal binding appears acceptable the book has the feel of something that was well read. Pages are toned due to age spotting boards/foxing is present throughout with some pages being severe. Some pages are quite darkened due to the publisher using different types of paper. As they well-worn book with heavy spotting but is still intact and very much readable. This is the second printing with the title first published in the year 1856.

Philadelphia, PA: Lutheran Publishing Society, 1896. Hardcover. VG+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, red cloth boards with black and gilt design on front and spine. Includes large foldout map attached in rear of book. Dark brown end pages, previous owner signature lightly penciled on second end page along with a price in the corner. Binding good, no torn or loose pages. Pages are lightly toned but overall clean. An attractive copy - see photos.

New York: The Viking Press, 1934. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket that still contains the original price of $2.50 on the front flap. DJ is heavily toned and darkened with numerous chips and tears on both the edges and folds. Dark blue cloth boards underneath are overall clean except for some small spotting on front and rear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no remainder marks, no handwriting, nothing torn or loose. Both end pages and pastedowns toning and spotting due to the paper reacting with the glue underneath, the text pages are unaffected by this issue. Dust jacket was placed in a protective mylar sleeve after the photos were taken.

London: Nicholson & Watson, 1947. 1st Edition . Hardcover. VG+/Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Original price is still present on the front flap. DJ shows rubbing and soiling along with minor edge bumps and tears. Black cloth boards underneath still clean. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. Front and rear end pages show some waviness in the centers as does some of the text pages. This is the way the book was bound. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings. Pages are tone due to age and from type of paper used. Only handwriting found in the book is on the front end page where there is faint evidence of a price once penciled in the corner.

Pittsburgh, PA: The Leader All Sorts Co., 1892. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, navy blue cloth boards with gilt text on front. Exterior shows scuffing on all sides along with edge and corner bumps. Interior pages are toned due to age and some soiling and fingerprints are present. No signatures or bookplates, no library markings. Overall, binding is good but the quadrant of pages 53-60 are pulling away from the binding at the bottom. This appears to be more of a flaw when the book was bound and not through misuse.

New York: Robert M. McBride & Company, 1941. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Inscribed and signed by Frank Buck on the frontispiece portrait where he presented the book to a friend. The original price of $2.75 still present on the front flap. DJ is quite toned and soiled with a small hole torn at the spine. The underside of the jacket was neatly reinforced the top and bottom with masking tape. This tape has become dry and brittle over the decades and will probably detached if paper is bent, though it will leave dried glue residue on the backside of the jacket. Dark orange cloth boards are clean with only minor edge and corner bumps/wear. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. Stated 2nd printing at the bottom of the DJs front flap which still has the original price of $3.50 present. The dust jacket shows quite a bit of wear along the edges along with soiling and toning. The underside of the jacket was neatly reinforced with masking tape along the top and bottom edges and over the decades the tape is darkened with age. Hardcover with dust jacket that still has the original price of $5.00 on the front flap. DJ shows scuffing and toning with numerous chips and tears along the edges. The spine of the jacket is faded and there is a small hole near the center. Red paper and black cloth boards underneath with two paper labels that are in good shape. The only real issue with the boards is the top edge is a bit darkened. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues and text pages are tight. No signatures or bookplates present, no library markings, no handwriting, nothing torn or loose. Pages are a bit toned due to age but are overall clean.

Highlights on DJ are scuffed off, mainly on edges and corners. DJ condition VG. Hardcover. Book DJ does show some light to moderate wear/scuffs from publisher packing process and from being on our store shelves which is why this was not listed as brand new. Note: Our original store price was penciled inside front cover but has since been erased.

New York: The Dial Press, Inc., 1969. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket. Original price of $3.95 is still present on the front flap. DJ shows scuffing and wear along with soiling, edge and corner bumps/creases/small tears. Rear of dust jacket has a small hole near the lower left corner. Yellow cloth boards underneath are clean and only issues are some very minor corner bumps. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight, no signatures or bookplates, no library markings present. Only issues on the inside is on page 109 for the lower outside corner was creased - this was likely caused when book was made and was not from somebody folding it over. The corner has been straightened out but the creases are still present.

Baltimore, MD: F. Heath Coggins & Company, 1929. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, blue cloth boards with gilt text on front and spine. Twice signed with the name Andrew W. Mellon on the half title page. These signatures do not appear to match the signatures on Treasurer documents so the authenticity cannot be verified. Cloth has minor soiling and spotting but the reason for the lower condition grade is the front board has a crease the lower right which is caused a wrinkling the paper as well as the front pastedown. Internal binding is good, no hinge issues at boards but there is a bit of webbing showing at page 192. Pages are toned due to age and there are a few scattered smudge marks and foxing spots, though nothing serious. Front end page shows evidence of handwriting which is been erased but you can still see the residue. No other markings noted, no bookplates, no library markings.

Providence, RI: Akerman-Standard Press, 1948. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good+/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, beveled brown cloth boards with black label on spine. The front porch shows some spotting along with a vertical indentation mark near the left side. The rear board shows a lot more spotting, both light and dark. This is the only reason for the lower condition grade. Corners also show some bumping, particularly on the upper outside areas. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, no handwriting. The text pages themselves are mostly clean but the end pages and pastedowns do show some foxing and spotting, as does the exterior page edges.

Boston, MA: Little, Brown, and Company, 1948. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover with dust jacket and inscribed and signed by the author on the front end page. The original price of $3.50 is still present on the front flap. DJ shows scuffing and soiling along with edge wear and tear. The reason for the low condition grade is because the underside of the jacket was neatly reinforced by three strips of masking tape. Over the decades the tape is become dry and brittle and the glue has darkened the outside of the jacket. Baby blue-gray cloth boards underneath are not affected by the tape and are clean. The only issues being there is fading along the edges and some light scuffing. The interior binding is good, no hinge issues. There is also small pen scribble on the jacket's front flap. Hardcover, green cloth boards are clean with only very minor dusting spots, spine is slightly darkened and edges and corners show almost no wear. The internal binding is good and text pages are tight. There are no signatures or bookplates, no library markings, nothing torn or loose. The only evidence of handwriting found in the book is on the front end page, where you can just barely see a price that was once penciled in the corner and then later erased. The pastedowns and opposite end pages show some spotting and foxing. The only other issue worth pointing out is the original bookstore label on the front pastedown as the outside corner of it is stuck to the front end page.
