Jackie Van, vocalist with the Chicago-based Al Trace band who recorded for many major record labels, demonstrates the latest in 1949 record player technology. The achievements of the Triple Play record changer made by Admiral are explained on the attached paper blurb on the verso, dated 3/21/49. There is also a 1949 ink date stamp.

Alfred Hitchcock presents François Truffaut with the Joseph Burstyn Award for the Best Foreign Language Film of 1973, for Day for Night. There was a nice synergy here, since Truffaut had written a groundbreaking book on Hitchcock, published in 1966.

Director Andrzej Wajda (who was often in trouble with the Communist authorities in his native Poland) in two behind-the-scenes images of him directing his epic film about Danton and the period of terror during the French revolution, which led to his eventual death.

Vintage original 9 1/2 x 12 1/4" (19 x 31 cm.) black-and-white borderless double weight matte finish still photo. Holograph notations on back do not show through, just about fine. Angela Lansbury at the height of her youthful glamour when, while still a teen, she played character roles in GASLIGHT (Academy Award-nominated), NATIONAL VELVET, THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY and THE HARVEY GIRLS. Lansbury came from England with her actress mother as an adolescent when the country went to war, assimilated herself into the American film business and became and remains a top actress in film, TV and stage entertainment to this day, at 95 years-old.

Anna May Wong left Hollywood in 1928 in search of better (and very specifically, less racially-stereotyped) roles, and she made a few notable films there. But she was back in Hollywood to make this film, a Fu Manchu mystery, in which she again played a stereotypical Asian femme fatale. However, Paramount certainly did create some impressive imagery of her, like in this portrait.

Original paper blurb from Universal Studios on verso. Crease at bottom left corner, near fine. Ann-Margret, very early in her film career, is at her most demure in this lovely portrait for her role as a sassy juvenile delinquent. The role somewhat typecast the multi-talented lady who still thrills us today.

Archie Shepp, whose instrument was the saxophone, was one of the great innovators in avant-garde jazz. His music increasingly reflected his Afrocentric orientation and his growing political consciousness.

Audrey Hepburn is sassy and classy in this portrait, likely by Bud Fraker, in which she models earrings, her little black dress and mostly her very chic hat. Hepburn's wardrobe as Holly Golightly was perhaps a bit high-end for Truman Capote's novella's character, however the filmmakers did make a point that she had but a few frocks and that she was able to change and accessorize them so as it appeared she had quite a wardrobe.
