Creased in places, VERY GOOD+. AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', a show based on the songs of Fats Waller, had a very successful run from 1978 to 1982. This revival, which incorporated the original Broadway cast of that first run, occurred between August 15, 1988 and January 15, 1989.

Early in his career, Tom O'Horgan directed many plays for the La MaMa theater off-off Broadway. He began working there in 1964 and, by 1967, he had directed HAIR off-Broadway, which quickly moved to Broadway to great success, so we can safely date this poster from between 1964 and 1967. Victor Lipari is co-credited with O'Horgan on the poster. He was a member of the original LaMama Repertory Company and appeared regularly as an actor in their early productions. La MaMa posters of the 1960s are quite scarce.

She was just 18, and for the next 20+ years played a great variety of characters on film and television.She conquered Broadway in 1966 with MAME, the Jerry Herman musical based on the novel (and film) AUNTIE MAME by Patrick Dennis. Written for Judy Garland (who sang the entire score at an audition), Lansbury was felt to be more able to endure the rigors of Broadway. She won the Tony Award for her performance and performed the role at the Winter Garden Theatre between May 24, 1966, and March 30, 1968.The musical role of Mame Dennis then became a plumb role for the middle-aged actresses of the day, with Celeste Holm, Ann Miller, Janis Paige, Ginger Rogers, Susan Hayward, Ann Southern and others taking it on in various productions.This image of… Read More

"As Is portrays the effect that AIDS, a relatively new epidemic in the 1980s, has on a group of friends living in New York City. It was one of the first plays, and subsequent television films, depicting how the epidemic was affecting gay Americans. As Is opened shortly before Larry Kramer's play about AIDS, The Normal Heart, was first performed on April 21, 1985. "This play depicts a gay couple, Saul and Rich, who open the play, and their separation. Rich's firm decision to separate is reversed when he returns to Saul after contracting AIDS from his new lover. The only play in Wilson's Century Cycle not set in Pittsburgh, focuses on a Chicago recording session of blues artist Rainey. There exist two different versions of this poster, one printed in red, and this one, printed in black. They were both printed simultaneously.

It gets discussed in Michael Schiavi's CELLULOID ACTIVIST: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF VITO RUSSO, where a Russo review of it gets quoted: ""I am tired of hearing about how all gays are bitchy queens. I resent being represented as something I'm not"" (p. 109).

A musical by Ron Miller, Shauneille Perry, and Ken Hirsch, adapted from the play DADDY GOODNESS, by Richard Wright and Louis Sapin.The musical ran into severe trouble while still in tryouts on the road in Philadelphia and Washington, closing without ever getting to Broadway (where it had been scheduled to open on October 25 at the Winter Garden Theatre). Due to the brevity of this play's production, this poster is very scarce.

Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey adapted this one-woman play from her novel of the same name -- a story that unfolds over many decades about a young woman who inherits a fortune in a society in which women are expected to conform to rigid stereotypes. The play was first given in Los Angeles to critical praise in 1983. This Broadway run was very short-lived, but the play was later the basis for a very successful television mini-series starring Sally Field.

Serban directed this daring production with THE TROJAN WOMEN and MEDEA in ancient Greek, with music by Elizabeth Swados, and the text was partially chanted or sung in Mayan, Nahuatl, Inahien and Aztec. No subtitles of any kind were used, and the audience was expected to experience this work viscerally, without being able to understand the text literally.

Very scarce poster (the OCLC records no known copy) for a 1968 run of the first play written by and starring Andy Warhol superstar Jackie Curtis. This play had had its world premiere a year before, also at the Playwright's Workshop, and an entirely different poster was created for this 1968 revival. "Jackie Curtis was born in New York City to John Holder and Jenevive Uglialoro. She had one sibling, half-brother Timothy Holder, who is an openly gay Episcopal priest. Her parents divorced and she was mostly raised by her maternal grandmother. Her maternal grandmother was Ann Uglialoro, a well-known East Village bar owner known as Slugger Ann. Original poster for the 1982 exhibition of drawings created by director Robert Wilson, in conjunction with his play of the same name. The exhibition took place at Lenbachhaus, in Munich, Germany, from May 19th to June 13th, 1982. Wilson typically created preliminary drawings for his theatre works, as a means toward composing a scene. These pieces would often be sold via exhibition in order to finance the ultimate production, as was the case with here.

It was nominated for seven Tony Awards, and won two.
