Creased in places, VERY GOOD+. AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', a show based on the songs of Fats Waller, had a very successful run from 1978 to 1982. This revival, which incorporated the original Broadway cast of that first run, occurred between August 15, 1988 and January 15, 1989.

Al Jarreau, who started as a jazz singer, was in time considered one of the preeminent exponents of the Los Angeles pop and R&B sound.

Holograph notation in pencil on verso, blindstamp of photographer Robert McAfee at bottom right. Portrait of Avon Long as "Sportin' Life" in the first revival of the George Gershwin opera, the notations on the back tell us that this photo was prepared while the show was beginning a tryout run in Boston.

The only play in Wilson's Century Cycle not set in Pittsburgh, focuses on a Chicago recording session of blues artist Rainey. There exist two different versions of this poster, one printed in red, and this one, printed in black. They were both printed simultaneously.

Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison's novels are a rich part of contemporary American literature, but represent a daunting task for any film maker looking to adapt them to the screen. Nonetheless, Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme threw himself into this complex project, with a top-rank cast that included Oprah Winfrey (who also served as one of the movie's producers), Danny Glover and Thandie Newton. Cards were printed on a linen-textured paper stock, which gives them an antiqued look, FINE.

Dorothy Dandridge's first starring role in a feature film, about a schoolteacher trying to help a wayward student. Harry Belafonte co-starred in his movie debut.

Buck and Bubbles were an important African American vaudeville act in the early decades of the twentieth century. Ford "Buck" Washington played stride piano and sang. And John Bubbles (a stage name for John Sublett) tap danced. Even Fred Astaire acknowledged Bubble's mastery of tap, and actually had him give Astaire lessons. This is a photo from a traveling stage show which the pair performed in the late 20s and early 30s.

Pair of vintage original photos, one 10 x 8" (25 x 20 cm.) and one trimmed for publication measuring 9 1/4 x 7 3/8" (24 x 19 cm.), near fine.After her memorable performance in Gone with the Wind, Butterfly McQueen struggled to get work in Hollywood and was relegated to bit parts, often uncredited ones. She did get screen credit, although as a minor supporting actor, in this King Vidor Western film.It is highly unusual to see portraits of her in a film like this, where her onscreen presence is so slight.

Vintage original Spanish pressbook (for the film's first release in Spain), about 13 x 10" (33 x 26 cm.), folded once (as issued), stamp of a former collector on front cover, pictorial wrappers, 6 pp., a few very light stains, VERY GOOD+. The artwork on the front cover of Dorothy Dandridge is adapted from the American campaign, but the Spanish artist has greatly improved on the U.S. original -- this rendering of Dandridge is much livelier and lifelike. The inner spread contains a montage of images from Otto Preminger's classic Black musical.

The great African American actor Clarence Muse, here In a rare portrait for a Universal serial which got released in 1945. "Muse [was]...so unlike other black actors of his era. His performances crack the glossy artificiality of his films, injecting them with a healthy dose of unassimilated realism." (Bogle, Blacks in American Film and Television, pp. 431-2.)

Vintage original 11 x 14" (28 x 36 cm.) lobby card, three words written on back in area of blank left margin do not show through, VERY GOOD or better. Director Shirley Clarke's second feature, about African American teenagers involved in gang life in Harlem. This is the single most iconic image from this harsh, semi-documentary film.

A musical by Ron Miller, Shauneille Perry, and Ken Hirsch, adapted from the play DADDY GOODNESS, by Richard Wright and Louis Sapin.The musical ran into severe trouble while still in tryouts on the road in Philadelphia and Washington, closing without ever getting to Broadway (where it had been scheduled to open on October 25 at the Winter Garden Theatre). Due to the brevity of this play's production, this poster is very scarce.

Dorothy Dandridge appears in five of these cards, including some nice portrait artwork on the title lobby card, for this film about mutiny on a slave ship.
