Atena Kustannus Oy, 1998. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Good. Ensim Painos. Hardcover in dustjacket, pp. 127, illus. The first complete presentation of Alvar Aalto's work in Lapland. Published to coincide with a major exhibition in Rovaniemi in the same year, this book's leading idea is to clarify how the special conditions of Lapland - and in particular its nature - influenced Aalto's architectural planning. Text in Finnish but with a condensed English-language essay of some 30 pages. The book is in Near Fine condition, very slight tanning and the jacket is in good condition with a short tear to the top edge, rear panel, and a couple of laminate chips at the front.

Finland: Mosfilm, 1953. 1st Edition . No Binding. Good. An extremely rare Finnish A2 cinema-used poster for the Soviet-era, 1953 historical movie, Admiral Ushakov. The film was first screened in cinemas in Finland in November 1953 with no subsequent theatrical runs. This poster is not a modern reproduction or reprinting and nor is it Video/DVD-related This particular poster is a standard size 60cm x 40cm approx. It is in Good condition - fold-line to centre, free from pinholes or adhesive residue marks. There a few tears to the edges, the biggest of which is 1.5 inches long. No loss of paper involved and therefore easily fixable. The left edge in particular has a few small nicks and one proper tear. The poster is a trifle tanned, perhaps. Notwithstanding the former it remains a very attractive poster, beautifully illustrated in colour (artist name visible in the plate or stone).

Finland: Independent International Picture Corp, 1956. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Fine. A very striking and uncommon, standard Finnish A2 cinema-used poster for the 1954 big-game hunting documentary, Africa Adventure, which follows a safari in East Africa led by famous hunter Robert Ruark. The film was released in Finland in 1956 with no subsequent theatrical runs. This poster is not a re-issue or a modern reproduction and nor is it Video/DVD-related. This particular poster measures 61cm x 40cm and was printed by Fotopaino Oy. The poster is in Near Fine condition with one small tear (less than half-inch) to the right edge and a short nick to the bottom edge. Minor creasing to the white border. There are neat single pinholes to the corners - quite difficult to detect. Appears to be a rolled poster with no definite folding creases. A very striking image - almost lithographic quality - in fantastic condition for a cinema-used poster.

Finland: Universal International, 1951. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Fine. A First Screening, Finnish foyer poster for the 1941 Abbott & Costello comedy, Buck Privates. The film was not released in Finland until well after the end of the war, 1951. Standard Finnish A2 size for a full-bleed, foyer poster, measuring approximately 15.5" x 22.5". No Printer information. Artist signed in the plate (initials). Condition: C7/8, Fine/Very Fine. A rolled poster with no folding crease. The poster has been mounted with adhesive. Residue staining along the top margin of the verso. Very minor bleed-through, hardly noticeable. One dismounting tear from the top edge, middle, 1.25 inches in length. Helsinki: British Lion Film Corporation, 1949. No Binding. Near Fine. A cinema-used, Finnish poster for the 1948 movie SPRING IN PARK LANE, starring Anna Neagle and Michael Wilding. The film was first screened in Finland in March 1949 - appropriately, at the Ritz Cinema, Helsinki - and there were no further theatrical releases. A big winner at the box office it is apparently one of the highest-grossing British movies of all time. It obviously enjoyed a long run in Finland because - based on presentation only (I have never seen another example) - this does appear to be a reprinting from the era but this is an educated guess only. It could be a first screening poster. The poster was printed by Norbladd & Pettersson and measures 23.5 inches x 16.25 inches (60cm x 41cm) approx, Standard Finnish A2. Köln: Taschen, 1994. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 2 Volumes in Slipcase, folio, pp. 340, 400, illustrated. Volume 1 titled, 1792-1949 and Volume 2, 1950-Today. Produced to the usual high Taschen standards, each volume in Fine condition - hardly read, it would seem - and each dustjacket also fine with slight edge creasing. Some marks to slipcase and wear aloing the edges. A detailed chronological overview of major international Architectural Competitions over the preceeding 200 years, from the White House in Washington to the new Reichstag in Berlin. An impressive publication.

Argyll Publishing, 1998. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. As New/Fine. First Printing. The Artist in his world presents a decade's work by Ian McCulloch in the medium of print. And in an unusual collaboration across artisitic boundaries Alasdair Gray has produced 8 poems written from August 2-5, 1998 on eight series of prints by the artist. A wonderful book and this copy is one of an unspecified but limited number signed in pencil by both the artist and the poet, at the front endpaper. Book and dustjacket both in superb condition, presents as a like-new copy.

Published to mark the eponymous exhibition by the enfants terrible of modern British art at the Tate, Liverpool in 2006. One of reportedly only 60 signed copies offered for sale by the Tate Gallery Bookshop at the time. SIGNED "Jake and Dinos Chapman" at the half-title. Exceedingly scarce, I do not recall one of these signed copies being offered for sale previously. 1/4 cloth. pp. 149, illustrated. Lower corners bumped but otherwise a Fine copy indeed.

Leipzig: F. E. Wachsmuth, 1930. No Binding. Very Good. A striking colour lithograph picturing plantation workers picking cotton by the banks of the Mississippi. Intended for educational use in schools, circa 1930. Measures 26 x 34.5 inches. With two hanging holes and some staining and grubbiness to the margins with a couple of ink marks to the picture. The image has retained its colour well, nonetheless, and this is a striking piece which will frame well.

The film's first and only screenings took place in Finland in 1955 and this is a first-release poster. Standard Finnish A2 size, measuring approximately 16" x 23" . The poster was printed by Piirtopaino Oy, no artist signature. Condition: C8, Very Good to Fine A folded poster with one folding crease towards the top edge. There are neither staple-holes, pinholes nor tape residue marks to this poster. No tears or nicks, very minor surface and edge-wear. Some creasing around edges. A very stylish and striking poster - scary and yet compelling. For best appreciation of condition please examine the high resolution image which accompanies the listing.

Finland: 20th Century Fox, 1942. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Fair. A Finnish first-screening cinema poster for the Darrel F. Zanuck movie, Blood and Sand starring Tyrone Power, Rita Hayworth, Linda Darnell and Anthony Quinn. The film was released in Finland in 1942 and had no subsequent theatrical runs thereafter. This poster has a few condition issues including some damp-staining and nicks to the edges. Cinema-used and therefore with pinholes at the corners and at the top left there is minor loss of paper. Folds still quite visible. Between Fair and Good condition, extremely scarce.

Self-published, 1926. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. One of 50 wood-engravings on wove (China) paper. Sheet size 17cm x 15cm approx, image size 12cm x 10cm approx, hinge-mounted. Numbered 13/50 lower left, signed "Eric G" lower right. Excellent clean condition, no discernible spotting, e.g. Auction-house labels to verso of the mounting (25cm x 23cm approx).

Finland: Self-published, 1947. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. An exquisite and early, small drypoint by Tuulikki Pietilä (1917-2009), Finland's most influential graphic artist of the 20th Century. Numbered 2/10 (lower left) and hand-signed/dated in pencil in 1947 by the artist (middle to lower right). Framed and under glass, the frame measures 24cm x 28cm approx. Image measures 4 cm x 4.5 cm approx. "Bo" is the name of the subject, a small boy. The print appears to be in VG to Fine condition, not examined under frame. Original backing with label to verso. The frame is a simple wooden one with a few scrapes and minor chips to edge surfaces, commensurate with age - likely to be the original.

The film took a while to get to Finland and was first screened in cinemas in 1957 with no subsequent theatrical runs. This poster is not a modern reproduction or reprinting and nor is it Video/DVD-related This particular poster is a standard size 60cm x 40cm approx, printed by Salonen Oy. It is in superb, Fine condition - unfolded but with pinholes at the corners. No nicks to the edges but a small tear at the top edge. Fully illustrated in colour (artist name in the plate).

Bound in buckram, blocked with a design by the artist, Victo Ngai. pp. xxv, 256, exquisitely illustrated with colour plates and vignettes. Presents as an unread copy, creakingly tight. Presented in a gold-coloured slipcase which is also in excellent clean condition with minor bumping to fore-edge corners. A lovely book.

Douglas Cleverdon, 1927. 1st Edition . Framed Artwork. Fine. Published in 1929 though created two years previously, numbered 8/15 lower left and and signed in pencil by Eric Gill lower right. Initialled also in the plate in reverse at the woman's ankle. Framed and glazed, both the mount and sheet itself appear to be in excellent clean condition with no discernible signs of foxing or spotting, e.g. (not examined under frame).
