Undated, but believed early 1900s. 6 3/4 by 4 3/4 inch photo mounted on a dark green pebbled matte board measuring 7 1/2 by 8 inches. Faint blindstamped name of photography studio at the bottom, perhaps G. Jackson, although this is unclear. The photo consists of 10 players, perhaps college age or slightly older, with two older men in the rear, in suits. Three men wear Manchester uniforms, two wear St. Paul uniforms and four are without a named uniform. They are posed in front of a large wraparound porch, seated in the grass. Two men are wearing their gloves, with two other gloves laying in the grass and one glove and two crossed bats laying in the foreground. A catcher's mask is also visible in the grass. No Place: No Publisher. Unbound. Good. Black and white Photo of a Gentleman Playing Baseball, captioned 'The Gen. at the Bat.' Undated, perhaps late 1800s. No indication of photographer or name of the batter. 5 1/2 by 4 inch photo mounted on a 10 by 7 inch cream matte board. Handwritten ink caption pasted below the photo. A rather faded photo of a gentleman in a batting stance, with bat over the shoulder. Several other men standing in the background watching, one apparently leaning on a bat. All dressed in every day clothes, not uniforms. A horse carriage and a few women can be seen in the distant background. GOOD condition. Small diagonal crease to the photo's upper right corner. The matte board is rather browned, with some spotting and staining, from ink and glue. Extremities bumped and scuffed. Minor soiling.

A history and survey of a variety of sports in the United States. This includes section on women's golf and records; men's golf and records; tennis and squash; New York tuxedo tennis; Boston tennis; polo; fox hunting and drag hunting; automobiles and driving; theory of play in modern lawn tennis; yachting and steam yachting, etc. GOOD+ condition. Uneven fading and minor to moderate scuffing to the covers. Leather worn along the hinges, with some scuffing to the spine.

Long Island, NY: Hampton Press, 1949. Wraps. Good. Illustrated wraps. 45 pp. Black and white photos and illustrations throughout. A program guide to auto road races held in June of 1949. The Bridgehampton Road Races were first held on public roads from 1915 to 1921, with the races revived again starting in 1949. They were held on public roads until 1953, when a crash and death caused the state of New York to ban road racing. The Bridgehampton Road Races Corporation was then formed, creating a private road circuit where races were held again, starting in 1957. This program is presumably for some of the first of the revived road racing, and features biographies of the various drivers, as well as photos and descriptions of the cars being used in the races. Many ads, etc., also present. GOOD+ condition. Minor fading, toning and soiling. Light scuffing and wrinkling.

New York: Top Rank, Publisher. Unbound. Good. no date, presumed 1978. Single sheet, thin card stock. 8 ½ by 5 ½ inches. A promotional postcard for the boxing match/title fight between Muhammad Ali and Leon Spinks. The postcard has an illustration of Leon Spinks jabbing, butterfly net in hand. Two smaller images of Muhammad Ali fly around Spinks, one depicting Ali as a butterfly, the other as a bee. The boxing match occurred on February 15, 1978, with Spinks, having won a gold medal in the 1976 Olympics, billed as the underdog. Spinks won a split decision, making him the Heavyweight Champion, and the only boxer to take the title away from Ali in the ring. GOOD condition. Heavy uneven toning, with some creasing and soiling. Mailing machine stamp and handwritten address on the reverse.

"Don King Presents," along with logo on the front cover. Rear cover blank. Interior has business name, address, phone number, cable address and telex numbers printed on the pockets. Presumably issued for some sort of promotional purpose. GOOD condition. Initials BG in blue marker on front cover. Folder scuffed, wrinkled, bumped and creased along the edges. Small area of staining on the rear cover. Small tear to lower rear edge.

Syracuse, NY: Arnie Burdick/Syracuse University, Publisher, 1942. Unbound. Very Good. Two sheets, 8 ½ by 11 inches. Printed on single sides only. A recounting of a November 21, 1942 football game between Syracuse University and Rutgers (Syracuse won 12 to 7), recalling the highlights of their "sluggish" win, mentioning Barney Werner and Big Tommy Maines, among others. The letter also mentions the seniors who would not be on the time and refers to the many other players enlisting for service in the war (World War II). Scores from that season present at the top. VERY GOOD condition. Two fold creases present, as issued, with a few other minor wrinkles. Worn mailing envelope present.

New York: Street and Smith, 1900. Original Wraps. Fair. Side stapled. 32pp. LACKING THE OUTER WRAPS. A tale of baseball geared toward a juvenile audience. In FAIR condition with the outer wraps lacking. Text is complete. Moderate soiling and foxing to the outer pages, as well as moderate toning. Minor scuffing and creasing along the extremities with the upper left corner trimmed on the diagonal. Staples rusted. Interior solid with moderate darkening.

Amherst: No Publisher, 1902. Unbound. Good. Single sheet, folded into fourths. 10 ¼ by 6 ½ inches. A handwritten letter addressed to "Shorty", perhaps the author's sister or relative. Written from Amherst, Massachusetts, the letter relays news and anecdotes of college life, presumably Amherst College. The author mentions getting fired from his job milking cows, and recalls some details of several basketball games, including one against Wesleyan, and one against Trinity, in which he states they "played a regular muckers game, played rough and dirty." Last names of the next year's captain (Ahearn), manager (Snell) and assistant manager (Quigley) are included. Henshaw also described in cursory detail a drunken sleigh ride. GOOD condition. Horizontal and vertical fold creases present. Minor soiling, staining and wrinkling. Writing a bit faded.

Lakeville, CT: Office of the Journal Press, Printers. Wraps. Good. no date, presumed 1912. Printed wraps. Small oblong format. Approximately 20 pages. A few black and white photos throughout, mostly of coaches or locations of advertisers, with a team photo of The Hill squad. A program for the 1912 baseball game between the Hotchkiss and The Hill schools, featuring a blank box score form, records of both teams, last names and physical statistics of the players for both teams, and many advertisements throughout. Both the Hill and Hotchkiss are noted private college prep schools. GOOD condition. Moderate to heavy browning to the covers, especially along the extremities. Minor soiling and staining to the wraps. Faint vertical fold crease present. Minor bumping and curling along the extremities.

No Place: No publisher. Unbound. Good. Miniature Football With Red and White Ribbons. States Made in USA on the football. Football measures about 2 ½ inches at its widest and about 1 ½ inches at its widest diameter. Made out of a hard material coated in either rubber or plastic. Ribbons measure about 2 ½ by 1 inch wide. Stitches and seems printed on. Presumably given as a prize of some sort. GOOD condition. Heavy soiling/staining to about half of the football near the ribbons, with other minor spotting. Ribbons dirty and toned. Minor rippling to the surface of the football.

A program to a 1959 lawn bowling tournament held in Whitefield, NH, providing a list of events, a short history of lawn bowling, a profile of the 1958 United States champion, and profiles of the divisional champions for 19 59. Very good condition. Minor toning and edgewear.

No Place: No Publisher, 1959. Wraps. Good. Wraps, illustrated in blue, with red titling. A program to the 1959 Red Sox, with a blank scorecard at the center for a Baltimore Orioles. The 1959 Red Sox featured Ted Williams and Frank Malzone, among others, on their team, with photos of both on page 3. The scorecard mentions Green at second base, being Pumpsie Green, the first African-American player to play for the Red Sox, who made his debut in 1959. Most of the piece is filled with advertisements. GOOD+ condition. General browning to the piece, with minor wrinkling and edgewear. Interior clean and solid.

A single issue of this magazine devoted to sports, including boxing and golf, with this month featuring a lengthy article on Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox. Written by Ed Fitzgerald, it purports to take a neutral look at Williams, citing controversy and controversial anecdotes surrounding the noted slugger. GOOD condition. Superficial layer of paper peeled off the upper front cover. General toning, minor soiling to the covers. Mathematical calculations in ink to the rear cover. Extremities with several chips and tears, bearing associated creasing. Light toning in the interior.

A first person account of the life and career of Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Bunning, including his account of pitching a perfect games while a member of the Phillies. Written while still an active player. GOOD condition. Some soiling and minor staining to the jacket, with general toning. Minor scuffing. Minor chipping, tearing and creasing along the jacket edges. Minor toning and fading to the book, with a few small stains to the front cover.

Some rusting and staining along the staples. Minor scuffing, fading and wrinkling. Faint musty odor when opened.

An exhaustive report and survey of the 1952 US Olympic Team, both for the Summer and Winter Olympics, reporting on tryouts, details of the Olympics, outcomes, team members, etc. GOOD condition. Minor fading, soiling, staining and scuffing to the covers. Extremities bumped and scuffed. Binding slightly shaken but intact. Interior solid, with a few pages rather soiled.

York, PA: York Barbell Company, 1946. Wraps. Good. Wraps. Pagination varies. Each booklet with two small fold out posters laid in, depicting in black and white photos, various weight training exercises, demonstrated by men. Bob Hoffman's Body Building Foods order blank, featuring descriptions of products, included. A collection of two booklets discussing various weight training regimens using various barbells and equipment by the York Barbell Company. Written by Bob Hoffman, owner of the company. Hoffman was a noted fitness and exercise promoter, founding several magazines devoted to the subject, and serving as a coach for the US Olympic weightlifting team from 1936 to 1968. GOOD condition. Front cover of course 1 and 2 with the letters inked in in black marker. Rear cover of same book with the perhaps humorous marker inscription "The barbell for dumboes [sic] like" with the name of a person below. Minor soiling, scuffing, toning and edgewear to the booklets. Some foxing to the fold out posters.
