X, 982 pp.Second enlarged edition of the first etymological Sanskrit-English dictionary by the English orientalist Horace Hayman Wilson (1785-1860), originally published in 1819. The first edition was compiled from materials provided by native scholars, supplemented with Wilson's own research.Wilson’s dictionary proved an invaluable contribution to the study of Sanskrit and long remained the most extensive and most common Sanskrit-English dictionary in use. Immediately after its publication he left India to take up an appointment as the first Boden Professor of Sanskrit at Oxford. In 1836 he was also appointed librarian to the East India Company and he also taught at the East India Company College.With some owner's inscriptions in the margins.
