As an introduction Mr. WIlliams has contributed an essay in which he discusses the two plays and recalls some of his early life as a playwright. Orpheus Descending is a story of the corruption which bigotry breeds and the brutality with which it can explode. It is also the story of how love can revitalize human beings. Set in a small town in the South, it tells of a wandering guitar player who is hired to help in the local "department store." Battle of Angels deals with some of the characters and situations in Orpheus Descending, but the two plays are not as similar as some of the critics suggested.

Square, tight and clean throughout with little wear. Perhaps a touch at teh spine ends but quite minor. Very attractive unclipped dust-jacket, ($3.75), has some light edge-wear and rubbing but is fresh and bright with no chipping, creases or tears. A very pretty collectable copy at a great price.
