DJ has edgewear, shelfwear, toning, bumped corners, chipping to the top & bottom of spine, and small tears (about 1/2') to the tops of both flaps.Book has slightly bumped corners, a slightly cocked spine, and minor toning to pages. Interior is tight, clean, and unmarked.

Does not state First Edition, as is the case with so many of these Harper & Brothers children's books. Not 100% sure it is a first but it likely only had one printing. The fore corners are lightly bumped. The lower, rear hinge is just starting. Former owner inscription to the front free endpaper is dated 1948. Slight spine lean. The dust jacket is chipped at the corners and spine ends. A 3/8" piece missing from the lower, front corner. There is some edge wear and small tears to the spine edge. Price clipped. The rear flap has an ad for Stuart Little which was published the previous year. ; Small 4to 9" - 11" tall .

Original black and white cloth with star decorations, $2.00 price on flap, decorated endpapers and single date on copyright page. Book is fine with mild rubbing to bottom edges. Jacket is also fine but for a 3/4"" U-shaped chip to the bottom corner of the rear panel and a small chip to the edge of the jacket spine, the whole protected by the Mylar jacket cover. An attractive copy and quite scarce.

Dear Bob, It was the artist's idea to put a salt-box house on a Wisconsin farm, and since the illustrator wanted it done, and also was my friend, I didn't have the heart to ask her to do it over again in the interests of verisimilitude. But the farm is a real farm, ten miles from Portage, and so far as I know unchanged to this day. I don't believe there has been much change in the heavens, either. You will find that same farm in 'Bright Center of Heaven' if you succeed in getting a copy, a thing I would not consider possible for anyone but you. Scarce as hen's teeth. But so is this.
