This edition is the Cumplido edition which was published in 2 vols in 1849.Both vols are bound in brown and tan boards with hints of red and leather spines with gilt lettering. The vols show wear on the covers along with bumped corners. Each have had replacement endpapers at some point in time however all pages of the text are original and in very nice condition for books that are over 175 years old. (Rafael published an edition in Mexico in 1848 & 1849) The Cumplidao edition provides the best coverage of the Battle of the Alamo and the 1836 campaign. Basic Texas Books 62 states "The best account by a Mexican contemporary of the American conquest of Texas.
