He was also a considerable naturalist in his own right. The book ranges beyond the strict interpretation of game and is full of interesting details about many birds and beasts. 28 reproductions in colour and 81 black & white photographs. Jacket design by Clifford and Rosemary Ellis. Book in very good condition. Ex library book with cards still in place on front pastedown, acquisition stamp to foot of title page and narrow band to rear pastedown where, presumably the cover was held in place. Internally very clean. Dust jacket fair. Price clipped. Generally rubbed and soiled. Edge wear. Slight loss to extremities of spine and some splits and closed tears around the spine. First edition, first printing. xiv, 24opp plus numerous black and white and colour plate illustrations. In green cloth covered boards with gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Cloth is rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends, mildly marked and faded, sunned a little on spine. Some spotting on text block edges and endpapers only. Previous owner's details on front free endpaper, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original worn and torn dust jacket, rubbed at edges and folds, marked, crumbling on corners and spine ends with loss along upper edges and around spine head; old tape repair on verso. Dust jacket now protected in an archival quality Mylar wrapper fitted without the use of tape or adhesives.
