Each plate is accompanied with a separate sheet of light paper with a caption. Clean and tight copy, with only the lightest of soiling of the wraps.

These cards are 9 by 13 cm. The print technology used for the plates coming with the book was photo lithography. The text comes with a still useful bibliography of costume books. This copy is disbound but otherwise the plates are all in fine condition. Minor wear, creases and like to some of the caption sheets. DJ with minor corner chips and now protected with mylar. Lavina Franck (1919-2016) taught at the University level for 40 years and was the author of two textbooks on textiles and the history of costumes. 11 pages of text, bibliography, and list of full color plates in the book. Costumes from the following regions: Brittany, Normandy, Champagne, Lorraine, Alsace, Franche-Comte, Burgundy, Bresse, Bourbonnais, Aurvergne, Sables D'Oloone, Bordeaux, Basque Country, Pyrenees, Savoy, Provence, Lozere and Corsica. 40 plates, each preceded by a thin sheet of page with title and page number. Bound in the publisher's original stiff wrapper illustrated in color. Front cover separated. Two inch tear through the paper along the bottom of the back hinge, several leaves toward the center are loose but the text is complete. Still a very good copy despite wear to the spine.
