Bell and Daldy, 1866. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1866. New Edition. 437 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Text block and boards are water stained. Pages are moderate tanned and foxed with slight tearing to front free endpaper. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper and paste-down, with water staining and a few small nicks along text block edge. Occasional thumb-marking present throughout. Slight cracking to hinges, with exposed netting. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with minor bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy tanning to spine and edges, with visible crushing to spine ends. Book has a pronounced backward lean. Water staining to all surfaces.

Brown cloth on grey paper covered boards, original printed paper label on spine. 368 pages; minimal marks, Bangor Theological Seminary; spine cover varnished; some foxing; hinges solid, spine a little shaky; some scant underlines or marginal line scattered distantly through text; otherwise clean, sound, attractive copy; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

London: Holdsworth and Ball, 1833. Leather. 515p. Ex-library. A hardcover book bound in full golden-brown leather. Boards and spine chafed. Library markings inside and on spine. Text itself is clean, apart from some scant foxing, and binding is tight. An odd volume from a series titled TAYLOR'S WORKS.

Reprints Preface to the first edition (subscribed 1833) and also with 'Advertisement to the Present Edition' (subscribed January 16th, 1843). First Edition. A small ownership inscription at head of front fixed endpaper. Head of front external hinge splitting and that of the rear external hinge starting; head of spine nicked; spine faded and stained, and other staining to the cloth; both inner hinges split; lacks the front free endpaper; textually very good.

Holdsworth and Ball., 1833. Leather bound, first edition hardback. The book is bound in rubbed full calf with gilt borders and dentelles and marbled endpapers and page edges, it has been soundly respined. There is some foxing to the endpapers and the title page has a pencil ins cription, everything else is very clean and crisp.

"FANATICISM" by "the author of Natural History of Enthusiasm" (Isaac Taylor). 1834 1st American Edition; Jonathan Leavitt / New York, Crocker & Brewster / Boston.Condition:Some light rubbing to the boards; there are a couple of light stains at the right side of the front cover; worn corners; there is a small piece missing at the right edge of the label on the spine. There are paper remnants affixed to the inside front and rear pastedowns. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Consistent foxing to the pages throughout the book. Partial old personal library label affixed to the front pastedown. There is old strip of paper with a name typed on it affixed to the front end paper. A strip above the title on the title page has been cut away. The top of the Preface page has a faded name written in old ink.

Smart was born in Huntingdon, PA; graduated and studied theology at Canonsburg; was licensed a Presbyterian minister in 1837; and was many years pastor of the Associate Congregation of Massie's Creek, Ohio where he died in 1861. On the title page there is an ink inscription: James P. Smart. Presented to the Associate Society of Inquiry."
