Pages are heavily tanned and foxed throughout. Binding remains firm. Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces tanned and sunned, particularly spine. Gilt lettering to spine is heavily dulled. Some additional marks and staining to surfaces.

Clearly influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement, as well as William Morris's application of Pre-Raphaelite philosophy to bookmaking, Mason's illustrations bring together a lavish Victorian aesthetic with elements of Renaissance-era woodcuts.
