Orange cloth covers with bright but 4 tiny dark spots on front panel. Large, decorative, front cover label in fine condition. In unclipped dj, which is bright and fresh; however, there are mildew stains (NO accompanying odor) to the bottom inch of front cover, and 2' stain to lower portion of rear panel. Dj now protected in removable mylar cover.

Condition very good, the cream covers have darkened a little with age and have a few shelf/handling marks, nicks to the overlapping edges, spine sunned and a few small creases, a thin brown mark to the top edge of the pages that diminishes to nothing by page 11, the pages are clean, the plates are clean and bright, printed on glossy paper. 4 full-page colour plates by Rackham plus a number of black and white line illustrations, plus head and tail pieces, vignette to title page and half-title etc. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall

The King of the Golden River was written for Effie Gray, who Ruskin later married. The Victorian classic quickly became a best seller. The fable revolves around the "Black Brothers", Hans and Schwartz, who mistreated the wind, leading to the destruction of Treasure Valley. The brothers resort to stealing from their youngest brother, Gluck. This theft and destruction begins a series of events which lead to the release of The King of the Golden River,
