A Fine unmarked copy with dustjacket which has a small closed tear. 176 pages (though they are not paginated).Picture Post represented a new kind of British journalism when it was launched by its founder, Edward Hulton, under the editorship of Stefan Lorant and Tom Hopkinson in October 1938. Subtitled Hulton's National Weekly, it quickly became a national institution. Authoritative, international in perspective, objective, idealistic, witty but not trivial, it achieved the status of a unique chronicle of its time. Established authors of the calibre of Rebecca West, Cyril Connolly and Somerset Maugham contributed; but what gave Picture Post its special journalistic character was the way in which the photographs, with their distinctive captions, dominated the reporting.
