New York: Grosset and Dunlap, 1933. Vintage reprint. Hardcover. Very good. A hardcover book and dustjacket in very good condition. The book itself is near fine - clean, tight, unmarked save for an old gift inscription dated 1934. The dustjacket is clean and bright but lacks a 1x2 inch chip off the lower left of the back panel. Early Rex Stout novel, published a year before the first Nero Wolfe mystery. Stout's second book, this is a psychological thriller set in Montana. This is a vintage G&D reprint issued in 1933, the same year as the first edition.

London: Faber and Faber, 1934. UNCORRECTED PROOF, preceding the first UK edition. While the UK edition of Stout's book is itself a rarity, this proof likely the only surviving copy. Found in the author's attic after his death. Very Good in brown wrappers, title label on the spine. Square and tight with a few creases to the spine panel. Housed in a custom quarter-leather clamshell box.
