Topmill Press, Marrickville, NSW, 1994. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good Condition. Illustrator: Photographic / Illustrations. Introduction by author and appendix. The text is illustrated with numerous black-and-white photographs, and reproductions of newspaper clippings. Photographic paperback binding with black and gold coloured titles to the front panel and white coloured titles to the backstrip. Les Darcy was a champion boxer at the age of 16 and dead at the age of 21. He was a boxing phenomenon and took on all comers and basically won every bout. But, at the height of his career World War I was in the process of being fought, and, he wanted not to be manipulated as a tool for recruitment posters, left for America, where he in turn wowed the American public with his boxing prowess. This came to an abrupt end when a infected tooth led to septicaemia, peritonitis and death in 1917. People on both sides of the Atlantic mourned the loss of a true original.
