Front hinge repaired, text toned throughout, a few tears to maps, covers a bit rubbed with some shelf-wear, else good overall condition. NOT EX-LIBRARY.

Philip Henry Sheridan was a career United States Army officer and a Union general in the American Civil War. Despite its heft, the binding is tight and square. Very light rubbing at the corners and spine ends, small p.o. bookplate.

Owner signature on the second FEP and bookplate on the front paste-down; signature also in Volume Two. Unfortunately, these books have been ill-treated in some way, with the result that the covers, while present, have been detached. Please note the condition issues. Quercus must offer these books as Binding Copies, in need of restoration or repair. A very good clean unmarked set over 120 years old with four general's stars inlaid on each spine and all maps and illustrations of the period. This would light up any Civil war book shelf!.

Square, tight and clean throughout with strong joints, no foxing and little if any toning. There is a previous owner's signature and date that has been covered up with a marker on the front end-paper of each volume. Some fairly mild wear to spine ends and tips. Spotting to the cloth, mostly on volume II. A pleasing set. Not perfect, but solid and collectable and at a great price.
