Publisher's full blue cloth, blue lettering on spine and cover, photographs on endpapers. This is the auction catalog for Part One of the famous sale of the library of A. Edward Newton, Parke-Bernet Galleries Sale No. 276, held in New York on April 16, 17, and 18, 1941. This Part was comprised of authors whose last names began with the letters A-D and occupied four auction sessions over a period of three days, and included 584 lots. Also included are two contemporary newspaper clippings reporting on the sale, which included an important collection of works by William Blake. . Sessions 1 and 2 includes a former owner's pencilled notes of the prices at which each lot was sold and the name of the buyer.
