Spine and corners have had some professional restoration. Boards have a bit of light soiling. Original coated yellow endpapers. Front endpaper with a bit of dark staining from some old glue residue. Corners a bit bumped. Title vignette in color, numerous lithographic illustrations in text, some colored. Two full page coloured illustrations. A very minor amount of browning on the text block edges otherwise a very nice, clean copy. Arctic Biblio. 22800: "Printed and published after the expedition returned home, from the five numbers originally published in manuscript, October, 1950 - March 1951, on shipboard during the wintering of the "Resolute" in Barrow Strait". London: Ackermann & Co., 15th March, 1852. First Edition. A lithographed facsimile of the original manuscript monthly newspaper issued on board the H.M.S. Resolute during a forced wintering in Barrow Strait between Griffith and Cornwallis Island by the Franklin search expedition commanded by Horatio Thomas Austin. The expedition was distinguished for having discovered the site of Franklin’s first winter quarters on Beechey Island. There were five issues in all of the ‘Illustrated Arctic News’, dated October, 1850, to March, 1851 (February omitted). In addition to the numerous small vignettes and attractive views in the text, some of which are in colour, there is one full-page chromolithograph, ‘Grand Bal Masqué, H.M.S. Resolute Dec. 5, 1850, and a number of play-bills in drawn lettering in the style of the time.
