Pages remain bright and clear with minimal tanning and foxing. Binding remains firm. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is bright and clear but dulled to spine. Marked sunning to spine and edges.

Long gift message on ffep dated NYC Sept. 1950, from artist Carl Sprinchorn [1887-1971] to Caleb Warren Scribner, from Sprinchorn.com, "It was Carl [Sprinchorn] who made it possible in 1939 for Marsden [Hartley] to go to Katahdin Lake to initiate his series of great Mt. Katahdin paintings, by introducing him to the Chief Game Warden of the Northeast Section of Maine, Caleb Warren Scribner." DJ is VERY GOOD ; a bit toned, edges worn. Art. Stax.

From the blurb: "This first volume in the series of Catalogues of English drawings in the Royal Library is devoted entirely to the large collection, numbering about 450, of watercolours and studies by Paul and Thomas Sandby. Chief among these is the unrivalled group shewing the Castle and vicinity before the alterations made early in the 19th century, but there are also interesting drawings of the Duke of Cumberland's campaigns, lively views of London and a large collection of figure studies which present Paul Sandby in an unfamiliar but even more charming aspect. The volume contains a detailed catalogue and introduction by Mr. A. P. Oppé, which bring to light much new material and for the first time attempt a close analysis of the Sandbys' work. Good in a duststained and edgeworn dustwrapper.
