London: Groombridge and Sons, 1900. Hardcover (no jacket) in good condition - Volume II. No publication date stated (not 1900). The boards and spine are edgeworn with minor marks; bumps and fraying to the edges, corners and spine ends. The spine is cocked. Small sticker on front pastedown. Tanning and foxing on the pages throughout plus some creases and nicked edges at various points. The plate beween pages 24 and 25 is detached from the binding; the binding is weak at a few points. Notes written in fountain pen on p.114 and reverse of the plate opposite. All plates and content are present, and despite some minor blemishes within, text and drawings are clear. Beautifully illustrated within, colours are vivid and true. CM. Hardcover. Good. Used.

Sandford, Shrewsbury, double-ruled gilt borders, spine with raised bands, gilt tooling to compartments and leather title pieces, marbled endpapers and edges. A few minor scuff marks. A fine clean set.. First edition, mixed early reissues (except for Vol. VI (Birds), which is the first issue of 1857). Reissues commenced before completion of the first edition. Early issues are much superior in colouring to the later editions. Plates are finely hand-coloured, or partly colour printed (eggs).
