Description:
London: J. Johnson and Co., 1813. The Anglo-Irish novelist (1768-1849) was immensely popular and an importanty literary influence. Although tending toward the didactic, "Giselda"is an instance of Edgeworth's lighter side. First published in 1804, Here is an early printing that might have been a lovely copy, were it not disbound. One cover is loose but present; the other has gone missing. Originally a full calf binding, cross-hatched, with a gilt rule on the cover. The spine, which is still present, has ruling, decorations, and titling in gilt. The text is clean, very bright and clear; 200 pages. A few spots and faint flood-marking. Please note the condition issues. Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of repairs or restoration. We note that this would be an opportunity for a quality rebind to match the nice textblock. . Third Edition. Full-Leather. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

This novel retells the tale of Griselda, a figure of European folklore noted for her patience and obedience. In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart. Rubbed to the boards and the joints, which are starting to crack near the head of the spine. There has been a little loss of calf to the head of the spine., and the spine label is missing. The front and rear hinges are starting, but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with light scattered foxing. Good
