Much wear to tips, corners and edges of the book, glass ring and loss of color to a small area (3 x 6.5 in.) of the front cover, damstaining of front and rear endpapers, scattered foxing. Irish born Mackenzie (1809-1880) worked as newspaper man following a medical education. Starting with English newspapers he emigrated to America in 1852 becoming the literary editior of the Philadelphia Press. Most items ship with tracking numbers and (generally over $15.00) jacket protectors if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible.

Numbered pages 17 to 484, then 6 pages on the "Dickens controversy", then several pages of ads for other Peterson publications. Book includes Mudfrog Association papers which had not yet appeared in England. Green cloth boards with gold titles stamped on front and spine and gold illustrations on spine; brown endpapers. Cloth is worn through at bottom corners, and has wear at edges and folds. Couple of 1/8" tears and wear at top of spine. Book is clean and straight.

Personal recollections and anecdotes, letters by "Boz" (Boz was Dickens' pseudonym), never before published, and uncollected papers in prose and verse. The volume also contains Dickens' will, and a note on Dickens' feud with American publishers. Traces of rubbing and age darkening to the cloth, a small dampspot affecting the fore-edge of a few leaves.
