Light staining, foxing and moderate tanning to pages and plates. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Hinges are moderately cracked causing boards to be loose; cracking much lighter to gutters. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall; heavier to rear board. Spine has heavier tanning with visible loss, splitting and crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.

Hardcover. xxiv, 256p., rubricated titles, period illustrations in b&w reproduction on inserted coated stock, hardbound in a series design in maroon cloth boards titled gilt with rulings &c in blind. Lacks the dust jacket, of which front and rear panels were affixed to the front & rear pastedowns of this volume (preserving humorous drawings). Book is generally sound but the spine panel has suffered badly with a pulled top rim and tiny tears to tail rim, and gilt faded to illegibility. The ffep bears an ownership sig and a seller's scribble, but the hinges are good, no markings. One odd drawback is that the sewn binding was done with non-archival thread, and wherever threads expose, they have toned their gutters a quarter inch either side. The Broadway Travellers.
