With many in-text illustrations, as well as 50 fine hand-coloured plates by Grandville, including a frontispiece. All text in French. Finely bound in black half calf with gilt titles and decoration to spine, and black cloth over boards. All edges gilt. Some browning and spotting around plates. Binding very lightly handled. Very good. Considered the 'Grandfather of Surrealism', Grandville inspired many later masters of the genre, including Lewis Carroll, Max Ernst and Ralph Steadman.

Paris: Garnier Frères. Blindstamped, pebbled cloth. . Very Good. N.d., circa 1860s. 4to. 27.5 by 18.5 cm. 551 pp. 50 hand-colored plates, and many black and white text illustrations. (The plates are not always colored, it should be noted.) Moderate wear to the binding by edges, corners, joints. Scattered foxing on text pages and tissue guards, as the norm for this book and the paper stocks used. The color plates are generally clean.
