Spine, gilt tooling & titles, edges bumped and worn. Internally, half title, not paginated but 64 leaves, containing, 2 music plates, 10 Botany Plates, 26 Alphabet Plates, and 8 illustrations within text, 1 pl soiled with small repair, text block edges sprinkled red, ink name to fep (Harvey), lacks adverts at end, recased. (Allibone 983). Lear published his last book of nonsense, Laughable Lyrics, which contained some of his finest, but also his saddest songs, including 'The Pelican Chorus', 'The Yonghy-bonghy-bò', and 'The Dong with a Luminous Nose' See ODNB.

[128],4pp. Numerous illustrations by the author. Original pictorial cloth gilt over bevelled boards, in a Lear design, by W. Bone & Son; expertly resewn and refurbished; endpapers replaced; a few small marks to covers; light spotting to prelims, but overall a very good copy. Contemporary armorial bookplate of the Tatton family - presumably at this date that of Thomas Egerton Tatton (1846-1924).
