Giles Beecher Jackson was an attorney, entrepreneur, real estate developer, newspaper publisher, and civil rights activist. Daniel Webster Davis was an American educator, minister, and poet. In March 1902, Virginia governor Andrew Jackson Montague commissioned the Negro Building, a venue for exhibitions by and about African Americans, as well as to celebrate the tricentennial of the founding of Jamestown. Minor wear and rubbing to boards. A profusely-illustrated historical treatment of African American industrial history intended as a textbook for teaching Black youth. The authors, Giles B. Jackson and D. Webster Davis (who are featured in the photographic frontispiece), write in their Preface that "Every rave has its history written by its own members.
