Octavo, red cloth, spine embossed with gilt lettering, cover embossed with a gilt graphic, [xii], 214 pp., frontispiece, seven black-and-white double-sided plates, one appendix included. Spine ends bumped and a little rubbed, corners bumped, lower corner of front cover rubbed, faint circular mark on front cover, foxing on text block edges, foxing on endpapers, light foxing on leaves throughout, spine ends of dust-jacket worn, some tape marks on flaps of dust-jacket; otherwise a very good copy. First edition, scarce. An account of the desperate World War Two fight waged between the Coastal Command's Sunderland flying-boats and Germany's Junkers 88s and U-boats during the Battle of the Atlantic. Southall, a member of the Royal Australian Air Force's Coastal Command No. 461 Squadron, draws on his own experiences, and those of his colleagues who fought alongside him, to recount this gripping tale.
