Mild wear and bumping to spine, board edges and corners, with tanning to spine. Small splits (approx. 1cm) and chipping to spine ends. Notable scuffing, staining and marking to boards.

Gosse was among the most distinguished naturalists in the nineteenth century and published numerous books, especially on marine biology, the sea shore, aquariums, and on his travels in Jamaica, Canada, Alabama, etc. Freeman 86: 'This was one of the most successful of Gosse's books and was a useful and accurate manual for the amateur microscopist.
