Thompson (1804-1878) and with an historical introduction to his career by American abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison (1805-1879). Garrison met Thompson in 1833 when he visited England on his own anti-slavery mission. Life long colleagues, each man named a child after the other. Of Thompson, ODNB reports: "In the run up to the Emancipation Act of 1833 he became the most effective British anti-slavery lecturer since Thomas Clarkson, addressing public meetings in 1832 in Manchester, Liverpool, and elsewhere in reply to Peter Borthwick, the anti-abolition propagandist of the West India planting interest."
