Description:
London: Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1975. 2nd Printing . Hardcover. Very Good-/Very Good-. I'd have graded this rather higher as it is a solid, lightly used, newish copy, but it has a notable marking problem. Specifically, it has neat occasional, underlining in ultra thin blue ballpoint, usually 3 or 4 word passages with an occasional check mark at the margin. It is worth noting that the marking is quite minimally done and therefore subtle in effect. Text crisp, boards clean, trace bumping front lower, binding tight. The jackets sole notable flaw is an internally mended short tear at top back, near spine, price clipped, looks quite sharp in it's mylar wrapper. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. We assure the buyer that books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, using the strict, traditional standards.*

Description:
London: Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1975. 2nd Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included. London, Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1975 (second edition)/ 1959. Quarto; cloth lightly rubbed; an excellent copy with the dustwrapper a little mottled and slightly creased and torn. 'Dr Yates describes how the tapestries arose out of Catherine de' Medici's marvellous series of festivals at the court of the Valois in the sixteenth century which were intended to bring together hostile religious factions in an attempt at 'politique' conciliation. The festivals were, however, constantly interrupted by renewd outbreaks of the French wars of religion; indeed, the Massacre of Saint Bartholomew began during a festival'.
