Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. reprint, Red cloth with gilt titles, discolouration to spine with some shelf wear to head and base of spine and rubbing to corners. Two small splits to cloth at base of spine. Owners book plate to blank fep, Front hinge cracked and further cracks within the text. Pages remain secure though spine is shaky. Foxing to edges of text block and very occasional spotting to early and latter pages and generally clear. Publishers advertisements to rear, the first page of which is loose but present.

Tail corners of final four leaves a little dog-eared. ; This copy appears to be from one of Chatto & Windus's series of paperback novels (sixpenny series?), which has been bound into a later cloth binding, without the original wrappers. 156 pages + [4] pages advertisements. Dimensions: 8 3/4" by 6". Two tone cloth binding, with gilt lettering on spine and front board. The author's first novel, originally published in 1890.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Second free endpaper has a chip and firt 10 pages have a narrow stain at edge not at all affecting text. Tight and clean througout without the usual foxing. A very nice copy of a scarce book. The official first edition by Chatto and Windus was published in 1890. This American edition appears to pre-date that issue, but is in all events an early edition. A tale of a successful father and son who lose eveything in their greed. . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 5" x 7 1/4".

Solidly bound block, well adhered to its case. Cloth shows modest lightening and slight wear at extremeties, crisp corners with a trace of threads. Some discoloration to cloth on front board, and a small section of gilt worn off upper design near the head of the spine. Doyle's first book, published in the U.K. in 1890 was pirated in the U.S. and this is such a "Pre-Publication" copy. Very sturdy, page edges darkened from prolonged shelving in a previous home. RARE in this condition. .
