Pages with some foxing and tanning, particularly to endpapers and textblock edges. Some cracking to gutters with exposed netting. Binding loose. Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing, fraying and tearing to spine ends and edges. Top half of spine missing. All surfaces heavily tanned. Gilt lettering to spine is dulled but remains brighter on front. Some additional moderate marks and staining.

Smooth spine with gilt titles and a gilt cross. Hinges and corners carefully strengthened. Yellow endpapers. Verso of front board with presentation label for Clifton School, from Sir A. V. Paton, with his heraldic book plate to the front free-endpaper. "Ex Libris Aluredi Vaughan Paton..." Dated 1923, designed by; "A. G. Law Samson Del.", and engraved by; "Lyon Court." dated 1930 William Stevens, printer, Bell Yard, Temple Bar. Book has been rebound and also has new endpapers. The third book (Morus). Small in-text engraving to title page and first page of text. Pages are heavily, variably tanned with noticeable foxing throughout. Rough cut pages. Binding remains firm. A few small edge tears to a few pages. Some pages are slightly smaller than others, apparently intentionally. A few dog-eared corners. Boards have mild edge-wear with slight rubbing to surfaces and bumping to corners. Gilt lettering is darkened. Minor sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Minor wear marks to boards.
