Presentation inscription on front paste down is 1919, but there is no date on title page, which is detached from the rest of the text block. The copyright page is missing. The sewn binding is rim , but front board, much abraded at crown is almost detached. Despite being faderd and scuffed, the front baord has beautiful floral design with embossed lettering.

Waverley Book Company, nd c 1912. reprint.. Hardback. Red cloth gilt, F. x+435+viii+435pp, b/w frontis, 35 b/w plates, fore edges a little foxed, otherwise a fine copy in bright cloth. A facsimile of the 'Author's Favourite Edition' originally published by Chapman & Hall. On the verso of the half title it states : This is an exact facsimilie in every detail of text and illustration, excepting on the title pages, of the last edition of his works published under the eye of Charles Dickens, and described by him as 'this is the best edition of my books.' The Style of Binding being also copied from the original. At the time of publication one of Dickens' most popular novels, telling of the trials of Nell Trent & her grandfather, who's lives are almost ruined by the moneylender Quilp. The last part of the book is a collection of 31 essays & short stories.
