Lady Chatterly's Lover needs no introduction - it has famously been discussed and infamously banned. When Lawrence tried to publish it in the UK and the US, publishers declined. Through an introduction by Norman Douglas (South Wind -1917) Lawrence approached the Florentine bookseller and publisher Giuseppe "Pino" Orioli who published a limited edition of 1500. The volume presented here is numbered 120.Lawrence presented his manuscript, unexpurgated, to Orioli who had it typeset by Italians who did not speak English. The result was unsteady with many typographical mistakes. Lawrence edited several copies before the final product was printed.The book is in fair to good condition: the spine is shaken and the paper covers on the boards are faded; the corners are bumped in a minor way; paper is lightly toned but clean and bright - a perfectly readable copy.
