Small Octavo; xvii + 124pp. Navy blue boards with gold lettering on spine and title reversed out against framed gold ground on front panel, including small nautical device, which is repeated on half-title page. Missing dust jacket. Spine nudged crown and foot; spine lettering darkened almost to illegibility; front panel gilding still bright. Textblock faintly and evenly tanned throughout; otherwise clean, unmarked, and square. Handsome volume preserves two of Conrad's three dramatizations based on his own tales. Galsworthy's Introduction summarizes the later critical consensus with left-handed praise: "It is exceedingly fortunate that we have in this volume examples of Conrad's dramatic art, which disclose at once what he did, and what he could have done; yet convince us, perhaps, that he was right in not further sacrificing the novel to the drama.
