Volume bound in brown leather with raised bands on the spine, stamped in blind front and back, metal clasp, and metal Star of David (enameled in blue and green and with the letters "IHS" in the center in gold), inner dentelles in gilt. All edges gilt over red, coated brown endpapers. The covers are lightly rubbed, and there is an owner name on the front blank page. Although the book has been well used, it is not badly worn. A good copy of this folio edition in full period split calf, spine with 6 raised bands and red morocco label, boards panelled and tooled in blind in what appears to be a Cambridge style (the binding is quite heavily rubbed with chipping, loss and stains to spine, chipping and staining to leather on covers; boards heavily rubbed with rounded corners; front and rear free endpapers lacking; frontispiece has heavy dampstaining with some offset to title page; leaf at Genesis V/VI has some creasing and marginal chipping with loss to running heads and notes at foot; some foxing, smudges, soiling, wear, etc.). 7 plates present (the frontispiece and 6 plates in text), which means this copy is lacking at least one and possible two.

In this copy there is a short note pinned to its verso, listing the births of members of the McNees family in the late nineteenth century. This is the first Bible printed west of the Allegheny River and the first Bible in English printed west of the Allegheny Mountains. Note: this is a well used copy, but in good condition. Rare. FINE CONTEMPORARY BLACK MOROCCO, ELABORATELY GILT, IN A SCOTTISH HERRINGBONE DESIGN, covers with central panel featuring a herringbone of turnip tools, with buds at either end and a daisy in the center, this enclosed by a frame featuring oblique fleuron cornerpieces and half-circles along the outside of the frame, raised bands, spines gilt in compartments with either a saltire dividing the panel into four triangles containing a pomegranate or palmette tool, or with a "mirrored" floral design, gilt-rolled turn-ins, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt.
