There is a full index covering all the artists, engravers, publishers and printers listed in the text, as well as all the regimental and subject references noted, thus enabling a print to be identified with a minimum of difficulty. Over15,000 plates are recorded, in sets, collections, and books, and as single prints. The prints here recorded fall broadly into five classes: Costume, Battles, Incidents, Caricatures, and Portraits. "The perfect print is one in the state in which it was published: that is, with title, number, artist's, engraver's and publisher's names, and address and date intact. For this reason, wherever possible these details are given, as well as the print size.
