London: J. S. Virtue & Co. no date (c 1906). Good. 1906. Hardcover. Ex- Mechanic's Institute Library with the usual treatments including bookplate; hand or perforation stamps on title page. Not stamps or marks on engraved half-title or plates. 2 vols.; both iv, 176 pp.; 4to; olive green cloth lettered and decorated in gilt and black; all edges gilt.; illustrations throughout; maps. Moderate rubbing to beviled edges & corner tips. Aside from faint white library call numbers on lower spine, very bright covers, text & plates overall very clean with only some light foxing noted at page corners of double page illustration of the Southwark and London bridge. Artists on the etchings include David Law, J. A. McNeil Whistler, Arthur Severn, Frederick Slocum, John Fullwood. .

London: Virtue, n.d.. First edition. Five volumes, 10 inches x 12.5 inches, original printed wrappers backed with cloth. The work was issued in fifteen parts, five divisions (as here), or two clothbound volumes. Slight chipping to wrappers and mild waterstain to part one cover, internally fine. Division 3 includes a photogravure of an etching by James McNeil Whistler, "Chelsea" (Kennedy 182a).

London: J.S. Virtue [1886-1987]. (4to) 176, 176pp. Very good. Three quarter brown morocco with pebbled boards. Two volumes bound in one. Marbled endpapers and edges, illustrated with nearly 400 engravings in the text and 16 etchings or steel plates, maps, indices. This is a wonderful volume with only very minimal age spotting and the one troubling exception to its condition being that the index to the final part is detached and the following blank pages (which are attached) have magazine and newspaper articles taped to them.
